Brookson complete the 3 peaks in less the 24 hours

Monday 13 May 2019

Earlier this year a group of Brookson staff signed up to complete the 3 peaks challenge in aid of our chosen charity, St Rocco’s Hospice.

Over the 10th and 11th of May the group were aiming to complete all 3 peaks, Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon, in less than 24 hours.

We are delighted to announce that the team managed to climb all 3 peaks in 23 hours and 45 mins, which is a great achievement!

Philip Bairsto, Head of Operations, explains more on their challenge, “We started Ben Nevis at 5:55am on Friday and finished Snowdon at 5:40am on Saturday morning.

Ben Nevis took us 2 hours 40 minutes to climb and an additional 2 hours to get back down to the bottom.

We then drove to Scafell Pike and started our climb 05:10pm. It only took 1 hour 40 minutes to get to the summit which was incredible pace. As the steepest of the mountains that was a real achievement. Getting down to a little longer due to the rain but over all it took us 3 hours 20 minutes to finish.

We then drove to Wales and set off up Snowdon at 1:20am. We lost the path a little in the dark and had a scramble to get back on track which was a little hairy. We reached the Snowdon summit at 3:30am and we were all back to the minibus at 5:40am.

We were really lucky with the weather. Ben Nevis was stunning and the deep snow at the top just added to the atmosphere. We were the first up there that morning and were heading down when the snow started again. Ian, who was driving, did a fantastic job getting us between them all in great time. Scafell and Snowdon were tough going. The terrain, tiredness and the added darkness on the latter made them extremely draining but it was 100% worth it.

The whole team would like to say a huge thank you to every who supported and sponsored us. We exceeded the target amount of £1,500 on Friday morning which gave us a real boost on route to Scafell.”

While the team were completing the 3 peaks staff back in the office were set a challenge to cycle the distance of the Brookson Warrington office to Scafell Pike, which is equivalent to 110 miles. By close of play Friday, 5pm, staff inhouse had managed to cycle a total of 146 miles, which is another great achievement.

Well done to everyone who took part in both challenges!
